Border firies help get Oaklands fire under control

Plenty of Border muscle's helped bring a fire north of Corowa under control.

Crews from Lavington, Thurgoona, Walla Walla, Splitters Creek, Jindera and Table Top among 72 firies attacking the inferno at Oaklands, breaking out just before 1:00pm yesterday.

The airtanker Southern Belle was also deployed to tame the flames.

Personnel are still on hand today, after the flames scorched more than 2,200 hectares of land, eating up an abandoned house and five sheds.
