October 1st has been announced as the beginning of the Statutory Bush Fire Danger Period.
The period will begin on October 1st, and will extend to the 31st of March 2018.
The NSW Royal Fire Service has announced the period for the Wentworth and Balranald local government areas.
Locals wishing to light fires will need a permit.
Locals who want to undertake any burning off are being told to never leave a fire unattended - always ensure we have firefighting equipment on hand like a full knapsack, or hand held chemical extinguisher in good working order.
Serious penalties, including fines and possibly imprisonment apply for allowing a fire to escape and damage properties and the environment.
Superintendent Walker is reinforcing the calls, saying we have all seen the devastation that bush fires can bring to a community.
