Passengers have been evacuated from an international flight at Melbourne Airport over a chemical leak.

The leaking drum in the cargo hold of the Singapore Airlines flight was identified after the plane landed just before 10am on Friday, airport and fire authorities said.

All passengers were evacuated and ground handlers assessed by paramedics as a precaution.

The plane was towed and the substance identified by HAZMAT crews as non-lethal before being removed.
