Melbourne Shopping Centre Wants You To Choose Your Shops

You CHOOSE your local shops!

Well, if you are a Yarra Ranges Council local you can have your say about a multi-million dollar expansion, planned for Chirnside Park Shopping Centre.

It will include up to 30 new stores, open-air health and well-being gardens and community spaces, and the those behind the expansion plans want to know which brand-name shops should be in the centre.

GPT group has applied for the shopping centre revamp in Melbourne's outer east, proposing the two-level development with dozens of new retailers on the ground level and a second food court.

Chirnside Park Shopping Centre development manager Stuart MacLeod-Smith has told Leader newspaper, the GPT group had a wishlist of potential new retailers but is looking at “brands missing for the centre” but not major department stores.

“It’s not an Eastland-type development, we’re not trying to compete with big regional centres,” he told Leader.

“We still want a community-type town centre for Chirnside Park and the surrounding areas.”

“We have our ideas, but we really want to know what the community wants in terms of retailers and usages,” Mr MacLeod-Smith said.

A timeline or a total cost for the project is yet to be detailed but word is, construction could start was early as next year.
