If you're heading to the beach or pool this hot long weekend, keep a close eye on the kids.
That's the warning from the Queensland Ambulance Service, after two near-drownings on the Gold Coast in the past couple of days.
Both kids are ok after getting pulled from the water, although one needed CPR.
QAS spokesperson Michael Augustus said tragedy can strike in a matter of seconds.
"It only takes seconds for a child to go under and it can only take another couple of seconds for a child to drown," he said.
Mr Augustus is pleading for mums and dads not to let their little ones out of sight around water, even if there is a lifeguard nearby.
"Lifeguards do magnificent jobs but in a crowded space parents can't assume other people are watching their children," he said.
The QAS is also encouraging parents to learn CPR, so if your child or someone around you is in danger you will know what to do.
