Adelaide’s Craigburn Primary School’s ‘Do It In A Dress’ charity day has been an overwhelming success, raising over $476K and counting to help disadvantaged girls in Africa receive an education.
The fundraiser gained media attention in the lead up to the day after Senator Cory Bernardi tweeted: “One school in SA now has ‘wear a dress day’. This gender morphing is really getting absurd.”
His tweet led to great exposure for the charity and while the kids at Craigburn gave themselves a goal of $900, over $476K has been donated!
The money raised for Melbourne-based charity One Girl, whose CEO Morgan Moegel told the ABC: "Our charity has been going for six years and has never been about making a political comment."
“It has always been about the girls. Without an education, a girl can be kept in the cycle of poverty and struggle to earn an income or look after herself and her family.”
